Story

Scroll: The Side scroller Adventure


Scroll follows the adventures of Doe Johnson, an average man, with an average life but thrust into a crazy adventure. Doe is on the run from a bunch of ruthless bandits when he accidentally steals a precious jewel, Doe doesn't know why the bandits want the jewel so bad but he decides to play keep away. Doe must traverse through many places to get away from the bandits. He has to fight and avoid many hazards, bandits and creatures. Can Doe keep the jewel safe and can he do something right? Well, that's up to you, the player. 

Gameplay

How to play scroll


Objective: Traverse through a 2-D side-scrolling level with 3-D elements, there are many paths above or below. Try and avoid losing health and dying but you can fight back with basic attacks or use pickups to help increase health or damage. Try and make it to the end in one piece.  


Movement: When moving Doe, the playable character, it's as simple as pressing the right arrow or the left arrow, to jump press the space button or the dedicated jump button on mobile.


Coins and Gems:  When Playing scroll you can collect coins and gems and they can be used to by additional pickups without finding them in game.


Doe

Doe is an average guy, he doesn't get up to much in his normal life but is now on the run from a bunch of bandits as he took a precious jewel they wanted, now Doe must traverse many dangers and can collect coins, gems and power-ups to temporarily increase his powers. He has to stop the bandits and escape. His average life depends on it 

Enemies

There are many enemies Doe has to face. The main grunts he will encounter are the bandits and there are three types.

The unarmed bandits who don't have melee or ranged weapons.

The bandits with melee weapons which cause more damage.

The ranged bandits who can fire projectiles.

There is also some attack dogs too. 



Display (HUD)

HUD for the Game


Main Menu: On the main menu, there will be three options and those are: Game, Settings and Quit. 

Game screen:  In the Game screen, you will be able to see how many missions there are and choose them.

Settings:  In the settings menu, you can toggle the music and change the volumes of the music and sound FX.

Gameplay: In the game, there will be a health bar that shows how much health you have,  a counter for all the coins and gems you collected and it will display the level number and name.



Pick up's

There will be many types of pick up's for many things. The picks ups are:

Coins, which contribute to the overall score

Gems which also contribute to the score

A triangle-shaped pick up increases speed

A square shaped pick up increases damage

A circle shaped pick up, which increases jump height. 

A little gun that fires projectiles

An axe that is used to increase melee.

Objects (that can damage players)

There will be many in world objects that can harm Doe, they will be a part of the level and need to be avoided, to add an extra challenge.


Spikes, these can be on the floor, the bottom of pits, ceilings and on the side of walls. They can cause damage when Doe comes into contact with them.

Fire, there will be pits with fire, campfires to jump over fire or areas where the level spits fire from the walls or ground or ceiling,

In the game there will be many objects that are part of the scenery or that will be obstacles to jump over.


The objects which just contribute to scenery will be bushes, trees and fences. 

The objects that act as obstacles will be walls, buildings (if any), rocks, crates etc. 

User interface (controls)

On mobile, the controls will be displayed on the screen, they'll help the player navigate the level, play the game and navigate menus. There will be three buttons, two arrows for direction, and a rectangle with text that displays "jump" for jumping. There'll also be another button called "attack" which can let the player attack enemies. The buttons won't take up too much of the screen but they will still be sizable so it's easy to use.


On a computer, the controls will be the keys, The arrow keys on the keyboard will control the directions and the space bar will control the jumping. and the B key will be used as the attack button.

When using a mobile, the back button will take players to the previous screen when in a menu, the home screen will quit out of the game. On the keyboard, the enter key will be the pause button and will have a menu that controls settings and take the player back to the main menu.

Player sounds

For the player character, there will be sound effects, there will be 3 sound effects.

The first sound is a jump sound:

Level sounds

For the level, there will be multiple sounds. 


Level music will play, just a simple loop that plays which isn't boring nor intesnse.

There will be a  painsound effect for enemies, they will make a more comedic and less violent noise, something more in line with the lighter tone of the game.

There will be a little jingle at the end to signify the main character is defeated if he loses all health
