The Dreamer among the Stars

The Dreamer among the Stars

Created by Sam Harrison

Game Introduction

Genre
So in terms of the genre of the game, it would be a mix of a story driven adventure, with a mix of puzzle solving added into it. This game would be for all ages, young and old to enjoy.
GamePlay
As I discuss it will be a adventure game with elements of puzzles so that means that the it will be about exploration that could be a mix of open world and a bit of linear that goes with it. The main character that at the moment could be created to look like what they want (at the moment, that could change, if I stumble upon some unique designs to be inspired by for the character) and be able to move and jump. It will be unknown at the moment if they can fight or not but it may be a suggestion to add down the road if it needs to be. The world will be interactive to make your way through the world and to solve the puzzles and to help the wacky and wondrous characters you will meet in this magical world. You will collect items in this game that will help and the story will play out as you journey off to find where your wishing star is going to and who is responsible for the other disappearing and falling stars in the sky. For one last concept that I feel would be really cool is that certain sections of the game would be synced to unique types of music as the part of a level or story progresses.
Target audience & platforms
The game will be for all ages, both young and old to enjoy
Look and Feel
There are a variety of games and media that mix into this kind of concept that have somewhat inspired me would be the adventure aesthetic of a long journey like the game of Journey For the elements of the puzzle solving with simplistic but unique puzzle would be inspired by the game of Inside and for the kind of aesthetic of the theme and story of this game, it is some-what inspired by a music video for a song called "Starlight Brigade" by TWRP If you want more of a clearer understanding of what I am trying to go for with this it would be inspired by the music levels of the Game Rayman Legends

Story

So the story of my game will be about this kid ( it can be of no specifics) who doesn't really know what exactly their dream is, yet all of their friends and family knows exactly what their dreams are. In this time of confusion, they turn to the only place that they feel will help them and that is for them to wish upon a star. So they go off to sit and look at the stars and they pick out the biggest one in the sky that they could see to be their wishing star. They wish really hard in hopes that their dream yet they feel that it doesn't seem to work. When they seem like they are about to give up they begin to notice that all the stars in the sky begin to fall or disappear out of plain sight and that their Wishing star seems to look like it is being taken by some unknown force and they realise without their wishing star that they will never be able to find their dream of their own. So they head out on this big journey full of adventure, magic and emotions to go and find why all of the stars are falling or disappearing from the night sky and to stop what is causing all of this. Along the way they will meet a cast of colourful and wacky characters where you will help them with their dreams of their own and possibly help them out on their journey to find their wishing star and to find out what their true dream is in a sprawling, colourful and wondrous land to help to fix the stars and to find a dream.

How to Play

The game is played like a long journey of exploration with the added elements of Puzzle solving and interaction with the world. The main character is on a quest to find out why all of the stars are falling out of they sky or disappearing completely and where is his giant wishing star being taken too and who is responsible. The puzzle solving will tie into helping other wacky characters that you will meet along the way that you will help to achieve the dreams that they want to come true, as well as a group of space warriors who's first initials of their names placed together spell out the word Dream (being that they will be called the Star-sea dream-walkers. There will also be puzzles in the real world (that doesn't have anything to do with helping other people with their own dreams) and their will be moments that will introduce specific types of music that plays in time with the player for important parts of the story or helping with the other characters when they are on their way to achieve their own dreams.

System Requirements

The system requirements that it will start with will be with any type of computer or mac computer that have the ability to play games (mainly computers that were made within the last decade). I am not so sure exactly how much space that it will take up but I doubt that it would take too much required space and for the Ram specifics I am unsure of that yet but I will update it when I am on my way to figuring it out and the game is taking shape.

Game Architechture

There are many aspects that i will use when I am making my game. For the Graphics visuals I will try for more of a fantasy cartoonish aesthetic then of a more realistic aesthetic and I will try and make that through the Unity Engine. For the likes of the sound and Audio I will try and find particular sound effects that I can implement through Unity as well. As for the likes of Music for the game I am not sure what I will use to implement the Music or where I will find the style of Music that works well with the whole aesthetic but I will go searching when I can. Thee rendering and Visual input will be done through Unity. And theI/O drivers will be  a keyboard and hopefully controller compatible (well if I make it for a console as well)

User Interface (controls)

The game will be controlled on computer by a keyboards arrow key (or wasd if you are what the kids call, hip) and by specific controller on console (if I make it for console or I make compatible for web)

Artwork (design)

Heads Up Display (HUD)

The game will be in a more of a third person display as we follow the character on their journey through this strange, colourful and wacky and wonderful fantasy world that they live upon so I will try and figure out the hud to this and look for ways to implement it

Character 1

The world that I am trying to create is what I would say is the world that a person would make in their mind as they dream about many different thing, so the likes of weirdly shaped buildings, weird and wacky inhabitants  that they will meet throughout the world. The land will be strange, odd, colourful, wonderful and beautiful and would try to emphasise the land that we see in our minds of what we imagine in our own dreams that we make every night while we sleep

Level Design

The world that I am trying to create is what I would say is the world that a person would make in their mind as they dream about many different thing, so the likes of weirdly shaped buildings, weird and wacky inhabitants  that they will meet throughout the world. The land will be strange, odd, colourful, wonderful and beautiful and would try to emphasise the land that we see in our minds of what we imagine in our own dreams that we make every night while we sleep

Player View

For The players view I will try to make it to be more of a third person view rather than a first person so you can see more of the world around the main characters and get to see further then being stuck in the main characters head (plus I spent a long time designing my character and I want them to ben seen)

Development

The development will be a one man battering man/ trooper (which is the one who is writing all of this up) and will be done with the help of tutorials from Unity and learning how to get it working. I will then be finding all of these assets and the things I need for my game and I will build upon this as I progress through the game development and Hopefully it turns into my vision that I had in mind and, excuse the pun, make a dream come true.

Technical Requirements

Mainly the technical requirements that I would need are as such:

-Unity for the creation of the world

-unique land assets for my strange, wacky and wonderful world

-Sound assets for my character and the world

-My designed character and their move set

-The music for the game and important synced sections.

-A lot of time, patience, tutorials an many other things to keep myself focused on this created

-A dream that this will all work out in the end.

Player Elements

For the Player elements I would guess it would be to model them into the world, that they are able to move and fully function throughout the game, Design their character and clothing and make sure that they can relate to the character themselves (hopefully that it will all work out)

Marketing

Over the next few weeks I will be making some concept pieces and character design and some concepts for the starships of the Star-sea Dream-walkers. Maybe I will even make a mock up cover for the game itself (If I have a time slot to make some stuff like that while making this game (again whenever that will be))
