Game Introduction

Escape The Mansion is a one player game in which the aim is to escape the mansion by solving various clues which leads to a key to unlock the door and escape.

Story

I want to have a game where the player is stationary in a room in which they are able to rotate themselves 360 degrees and look all around the room. The player is trapped in the room and in order to escape they have to solve various clues, each one solved leads them one step closer to escaping the room.

How to Play

Scanning around the room, the player clicks onto different objects in the room e.g a book, candle, picture etc. If the object holds a clue it will pop up on the players page resulting in a clue. The player has to retrieve every clue and use the hints to input a code into the safe which holds the key for their escape.

Artwork (design)

The rooms in the mansion will be dark and gloomy with an eerie feel. Cobwebs and broken wood would help achieve this theme. The lighting will be dark, imitating candle light as there will be candles placed around the room. The clues will be presented to the player and a scroll. 

Technical Requirements

I will use Unity to create my game. Currently I do not have the skill to create a highly detailed 3D game so I will use what I have learned to create a very basic 2D game with basic shapes to represent the objects. Making the player spin on a 3D axis is very crucial to my game so I will make sure that element is in place. 

Level Design

For the time being I am going to have the player escape from one room. There will however be a timer in which the player is working against. If the timer runs out the player will be trapped in the room and will have to re-do the level in order to escape. If the player retrieves the key and escapes the room then they will have succeeded. In the future I would like to have numerous rooms but for the time being I want to focus in on making the main room the best it can be.

Global Elements

All of gameplay will take place from the one room. Since the player can rotate 360 degrees, the room will have to be fully designed. Some objects which don't hold clues will be stationary and will just be there to throw the player off and also to add a design element. 

User Interface (controls)

The player will use click to click on objects in the room. The will use the arrow keys to rotate left and right around the room. The up and down key will zoom the character in closer and back to the starting point.

Marketing

This is a classic escape room game which everyone knows and loves. The game is simple yet effective in its delivery as it has a very strong team matched with simple controls. The player is on a time restraint which promotes competitiveness, whilst the clues are thought-provoking and require thinking to complete. 

Key Features

The player will have a time limit to solve all of the clues and retrieve the key to escape the room. The looming time is the main enemy in the game as well as the every increasing difficult clues that the player has to solve.
