Game Introduction
This game is a race to the end game. You will be in a map of a world with one character. You will be set at the start line and there will be a traffic light at the finish line. The rule of the game is that you can only move when the light is green. The aim is to get to the end to win. There will be a timer and the game will get more difficult as you get closer to the end.
- Genre
- The genre of this game will be a 3D stimulation single player game.
- GamePlay
- You will use the arrow keys on your PC/Mac to move forward. To stop you simply let go of the arrow key.
- Target audience & platforms
- The target audience for this game doesn't have any specific person and is to be played and enjoyed by all. I will create different characters and maps to suit each persons preferences.
- Look and Feel
- I aim to have a few different maps to play on for example a forest, a city, a post-apocalyptic world and space to give the game a different feel each time you play and to make it not so repetitive.
Story
This games story is that once it reaches the end it can finally be free, depending on the map you choose it could be escaping someone in the city, being chased by an animal in the woods, or being chased by zombies in a post-apocalyptic world, the idea is that it is up to your own interpretation!
How to Play
You will play this game by moving through a map of your choice, you will use the arrow keys or WASD keys to move your character when the light is green. You will simply let go of the keys to stop. Once you reach the traffic light the game is finished and you can move on to the next round. If you move when the light is red the game will finish and you will have lost. There will also be a timer above the character and if this runs out before you reach the end you will loose.
Artwork (design)
For this game I'm aiming to keep the graphics quite simplistic and cartoon looking. I want the graphics to reflect the type of game- simple and fun! The lights will change colour every few seconds and depending on the map it will either be trees in a forest, tall city skyscrapers, abandoned buildings or a spaceship! I want it to be colourful and bright so its appealing to look at.
Heads Up Display (HUD)
The HUD for this game will have a welcome page that has a begin button and once you choose that you will pick your character then afterwards pick your map, I think a HUD is important for this game but also important to keep it short and sweet to keep with the simplistic feel of the game. There will be four preview images of different characters and four preview images of different maps.
Characters
For this game I want to have four characters to choose from with different costumes to match each map. I also would like to have as much of a diverse range of characters as possible so that the game can suit and be enjoyed by everyone.
Character 1
Character 1 will be made to match the forest map, they will be a white-female character wearing regular clothes.
Character 2
Character 2 will be made to match the city map, they will be a black-male character dressed in a suit.
Character 3
Character 3 will be made to match the post-apocalyptic map, they will be an asian-woman wearing torn up clothes.
Character 4
Character 4 will be made to match the spaceship map, they will be a hispanic male character wearing a spacesuit.
Level Design
For now there will just be four 'levels' with the four maps you can choose from. When you first open the game you will only be able to choose the first map and once you complete that you can choose the second and so on so forth.
Global Elements
Each map will be at a side view with the background in front of you and the character at the start of the map at the left of the screen with the end of the map being the right of the screen.
Player View
The player will see the whole map with the start line where the character begins and the finish line where the traffic light is at all times throughout gameplay. The camera wont move instead the player will.
Audio & Sound F/x
For this game I want the music to be very simple to reflect the gameplay, but I also want it to add to the suspense of the game. I want the timer to have a timer noise that gets faster as it ticks down. Once the timer runs out it will have a loud beeping sound effect.
Global Elements
A simple yet effective background music similar to elevator music.
Menu Fx
When you are choosing the map and character there will be a clicking sound. When the character is walking there will be a foot stepping sound effect.
Technical
For this game I will be using Unity to make it, probably also using adobe illustrator to develop maps and character graphics, and a sound system to create the music and sound effects.
